Laura Okerberg, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
I love collecting quotes and one of my favorites is from Fred Rogers: "Anything that's human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting and less scary."
My hope is to be able to provide warmth and support to clients, using a strength-based approach. I value each person’s uniqueness and consider it a privilege to be able to accompany clients on their path to find peace and growth as they face life’s challenges and changes.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 18 years of experience providing psychotherapy to individuals and groups. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 2000 from Virginia Tech and my Masters in Social Work from Radford University in 2004. I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Pennsylvania since 2008. After beginning my career working in community health and foster care settings in Virginia and Maryland, I have worked most of my professional life in community mental health in the Pittsburgh area. I have experience and training working with adults experiencing depressive symptoms, anxiety, self-esteem issues, complex health conditions, and clients journeying through grief and loss. I am a Certified Advanced Grief Counseling Specialist and am very passionate about this work. I utilize modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Narrative Therapy to explore tools that can help clients bring a sense of calm to their minds and peace to their lives.
